Therapy That Meets You Where You Are Today
Whatever you’re facing, therapy offers a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts and take steps towards feeling more like yourself
Therapy is not about fixing—it’s about understanding
About Me
The relationship between you and your therapist is a vital part of the therapeutic process. So, to help you get a feel for whether I’m the right fit for you, here’s a little about me.
My approach is shaped by both professional training and lived experience, giving me a grounded understanding of how to support people through life’s more difficult chapters. My role is to help you build greater self-awareness, explore what’s holding you back, and find the perspective and resilience to move forward.
I specialise in working with trauma, addiction, and relationship challenges. Before setting up my private practice, I was the lead therapist in a residential treatment facility, working closely with people in recovery. My interest in trauma led me to train in EMDR, and I’m now an accredited EMDR practitioner.
Relationships are another area I’m passionate about—many clients naturally bring relationship struggles into the therapy space. To better support them, I’ve trained in IMAGO couples therapy and developed my work with individuals and couples alike.
My core approach is psychodynamic, informed by Adlerian and attachment theory. I also draw from CBT and person-centred approaches, tailoring therapy to each person’s needs. This flexible, integrative style allows us to explore deeper patterns and bring unconscious processes into awareness, all in a safe and supportive environment.
My Areas of Expertise Include:
Co-Dependency
Therapy can help you recognise unhealthy patterns in relationships, set boundaries, and develop a stronger sense of self outside of others’ needs.
Addiction
Whether it’s substances or behaviours, therapy supports you in understanding the root of addiction and building a healthier, more stable life.
Trauma
Trauma therapy offers a safe space to gently process past experiences, reduce emotional distress, and regain a sense of safety and control.
ADHD
I have lived experience of ADHD and understand its challenges first-hand. I’ve also worked closely with clients navigating ADHD, offering tailored, compassionate support.
Stress and Anxiety
We’ll explore triggers, unhelpful thoughts, and practical tools to manage stress and anxiety, helping you feel calmer and more in control.
Shame reduction
Therapy helps you challenge harsh self-judgement, develop self-compassion, and shift from shame to a more accepting, kind relationship with yourself.
Self-worth
Together we’ll explore what’s shaped your self-esteem and work to rebuild confidence, helping you value yourself more fully and honestly.
Accreditation

I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I follow recognised professional and ethical standards. This accreditation is part of my commitment to offering safe, qualified, and trusted support.
Certificates available upon request.
Frequently Asked Questions
If something’s been playing on your mind, affecting your mood, or making life feel harder than usual, therapy could help. You don’t need to be in crisis—sometimes just having space to talk things through with someone outside your situation can make all the difference.
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. You’ll have the space to talk about what’s brought you here, and we’ll explore how therapy might be able to support you. There’s no pressure—you’re in control of what you choose to share.
Not at all. You set the pace. Some people like to talk openly from the start, while others need more time. Therapy is your space, and we’ll go at a speed that feels right for you.
Everyone’s journey is different. Some people benefit from just a few sessions, while others choose to continue for longer. We’ll check in regularly to make sure the support still feels helpful and relevant for you.
That’s completely okay—and not uncommon. Every therapist and every approach is different. You’re welcome to come along for a chat and see if this feels like a better fit for you, with no pressure to continue if it doesn’t.
Yes, what you share in therapy is kept private. There are a few legal exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality—for example, if there’s a serious risk of harm—but we’ll always talk about this together if it ever comes up.
Yes. You don’t need to have everything figured out to start. Many people come to therapy unsure of what’s going on—they just know something doesn’t feel right. Together, we can explore that at your pace.

What My Clients Have To Say
When i met Jakana, I had a history of severe Anorexia, followed by 26 years as an Alcoholic. Over the years I had received therapy from Psychiatrists, as an in-patient on an Acute Psychiatric ward. Psychologists, and Counsellors both as an inpatient and outpatient.
I was therefore very sceptical that Jakana would be any different to any of my previous experiences. However I felt an instant connection to Jakana. Despite this I was reluctant to share too much to begin with. However Jakana was very skilled at helping me to relax. Using humour when it was appropriate or by showing empathy in sharing some of her own experience. This helped to build a trusting relationship, which enabled me to share over, the course of two years, the issues from my past which I had carried since childhood and never really come to terms with. She helped me to think about that, life in general and life going forward, in a completely different way.
I am now two years sober and feel happier than I have done in my life. I know that without Therapy with Jakana I would still be stuck in the vicious circle of negative thinking and behaviour.
Anyone who is prepared to listen and do the work on themselves that it takes, couldn't pick a better Therapist than Jakana. Thanks Jakana
Sue
Jakana has been the missing link I needed to dig deeper than I’ve ever managed before. The inner peace that has brought has been immense! Finally after many years of emotional pain I’m starting to be able to love myself.
Rebecca
Jakana is an amazing therapist who has helped me through some very tough times and helped me to explore my true self to become the best version of me. She was pinnacle in helping me recover from addiction, very compassionate and knowledgeable on what I could try to help me on my journey and improve my mental health from both the past and present. I would highly recommend Jakana, her friendly professional approach is faultless
Thank you for all your support
